The Korona’s design is truly captivating.
The obverse typically features the bust of Emperor Franz Joseph I, facing right, surrounded by inscriptions detailing his imperial titles.
On the reverse, you’ll find the Hungarian coat of arms elegantly displayed and encircled by intricate ornamentation. The denomination, such as “10 KORONA” or “20 KORONA,” is prominently shown above the coat of arms.
Hungarian 100 Korona gold bullion coins are identical in weight and purity to the Austrian 100 Coronas; however, the two coins differ in design. The obverse of the Austrian gold bullion coins features a profile of Franz Joseph I, while the Hungarian 100 Koronas depict him standing and holding a sphere and a scepter. The reverse side of the 100 Korona gold bullion coin displays the Hungarian Coat of Arms, which is represented by a large shield held by winged angels.
The Hungarian Korona are available in various designs and with their high gold content and low premium they can be an excellent addition to a precious metals portfolio.
Because these three coins are no longer minted, they are no longer promoted; consequently, they sell at small markups over spot than the more popular gold bullion coins, such as the American Gold Eagle coins and the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf coins.
Hungarian 100 Koronas, Austrian 100 Coronas, and Mexican 50 Pesos gold coins are ideal coins for gold buyers who want low premium gold coins, coins that carry small markups over spot.
Both the Hungarian 100 Koronas and the 100 Austrian Coronas are minted from 900 fine (21.6 karat) gold, with each coin containing 0.98 ounces of gold. The restrike date for the Hungarian 100 Koronas is 1908, indicating that these are official reproductions of coins that were previously minted for circulation. The edges of the coins are inscribed with the phrase “Bizalmam az ősi erényben.”
Like the 100 Coronas, the Hungarian 100 Koronas are no longer being minted and are among the lowest-premium gold bullion coins available. However, they are less common than the Austrian 100 Coronas. Occasionally, a few 100 Koronas may be included in an order of Austrian 100 Coronas. Dealers often do not distinguish between the two coins, as they are essentially the same in composition.
